FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Several men stranded on a drifting sheet of floating ice were rescued by a helicopter in Northwest Alaska off the coast of Nome.
According to the Associated Press, Phillip Rode, John Culp Jr., and James Gibson went onto the ice to recover gold mining equipment using a skiff.
The ice broke loose as they were moving equipment, and they did not notice they had drifted out to the Bering Sea.
The Ice started cracking under them and the Floes became smaller and farther apart. One man stated he had jumped from ice sheet to another to stay close to the other men. The men were rescued by Alaska State Troopers after been in open water for three hours.
