Man with machete threatens families at Pioneer Park

FAIRBANKS, Alaska A man has been taken into police custody after threatening people at the playground in Pioneer Park Thursday night.

At approximately 8:15PM Thursday night Fairbanks Police Officers received a call regarding a suspicious man in the playground at Pioneer Park. According to the caller the man had a machete in his bag and was threatening people, including children, at the playground.

Officers arrived on the scene shortly afterwards and were able to detain the suspect without incident. Diego Sandovalledesma, 23, was taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center on three counts of assault in the third degree.

This is the second incident in the last week involving an individual threatening others with a weapon in a public place here in Fairbanks.
