Local man taken into protective custody for waving machete, threatening suicide

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Monday morning, just after 9:30 a.m., Fairbanks police responded to a residence on East Cowles Street for a report of a man threatening suicide. The caller reported the subject was angry and breaking items in their apartment with a machete and that two children were in the apartment as well. When officers arrived on-scene, the subject ran out of the building and surrendered to them. The man was taken into protective custody and transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
