FAIRBANKS, Alaska - With the start of the new school year, it is time for the annual 'Health Care for Kids' event. On Saturday September 8, the Fairbanks North Star Borough, along with a number of other local contributors, will be holding a free health fair for children zero to eight-years-old.
There will be numerous booths at the event, offering services such as free vision, hearing, and dental screenings. There will also be resources available to educate parents and children on how to continue maintaining healthy habits.
Rachel Hanft serves on the 'Fairbanks Families Partnership for Early Childhood Development' and told us what the fair provides to the community.
"It's the ninth annual fair, and it came about as a partnership idea. What does our community need? What could we be doing better with families with young kids? We thought a health fair would be an appropriate venue, and it's not just physical health, it's financial health, educational health, environmental health, social health. There's all these different things that we have going on at one time for families to find out about," Hanft said.
The health fair will also have fun door prizes and activities for the whole family.
