FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A local group of attorneys will be donating their time to give free legal help to the community on Monday.
The Alaska Bar Association, the Alaska Court System and the Alaska Legal Service Corporation is holding their annual MLK Day Free Legal Help event in Palmer, Anchorage, and Juneau, as well as, Fairbanks.
Around 15 local attorneys will be at the JP Jones Community Center from 10 am to 4 pm to give legal advice for civil matters from divorce and custody to housing law and employment law.
Rachael Delehanty, a staff attorney for Alaska Legal Services Corporation said they are participating to help those who would otherwise be unable to seek legal aid.
"It's not every day that people can get a free legal consult,” Delehanty said. “We do know that legal help is sometimes financially burdensome. And so this is kind of our way of trying to give back to the community and honor Martin Luther King."
There will also be a satellite event at the Fairbanks Senior Center from 10 am to 3 pm that will focus on elder law issues. More information on the MLK Free Legal Help event can be found at alaskabar.org/mlk.
