Kombucha is a recent buzzword in the health community. It's a living health drink made by fermenting tea with fungus and sugar. The taste has been described as between sparkling apple cider and champagne, depending on what kind of tea is fermented, or what fruit is mixed with it.
"Yeah Kombucha is a fermented sweet tea. It's got a lot of probiotics and mainly good for your digestive system. It's been around for about 2 thousand years. It has been documented in China so we think it started in China but it's actually all over the world." Said Shelly Jensen, a local Kombucha maker.
Kombucha comes in a variety of flavors, but it's the bacteria that is the most noteworthy aspect about this fizzy health drink.
"I believe the fermented anything in your diet is important. And life culture and reintroducing the good bacteria into your system naturally is a very beneficial thing to your life in general." Said Jensen
More studies need to be done to determine how exactly Kombucha affects aspects of health. It is suggested by the Center for Disease Control to consume the drink one to three times a day to reap the most benefits.
