Jury returns guilty verdict in sex assault retrial

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The jury in the retrial of Jondean Willock reached a guilty verdict Thursday afternoon.
Closing arguments for the trial were held last Friday, but a family emergency with one of the jurors caused a delay with deliberations.
Willock was originally tried and sentenced to 35 years in prison in 2012.
However, he appealed his case claiming that the original jury was tainted by knowing of a previous sexual assault conviction he had served before the new incident.
The appeals court agreed, ruling that he had to be re-tried by a jury with no knowledge of his prior criminal history.
After listening to three days of testimony from the prosecution and defense, the jury spent Friday afternoon and the next Thursday morning deliberating before reaching the guilty verdict
