House District 1 Candidate Kathryn Dodge appeals recount results

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Kathryn Dodge, candidate for State House District 1, decided to file legal challenges appealing the recount results which have Bart LeBon in the lead by one vote.

The race between Dodge and LeBon has flipped back and forth throughout the past four weeks. Dodge submitted paperwork to the Supreme Court Wednesday to start the legal challenge process on several ballots. Dodge says she is trying to make sure every legally cast vote is counted correctly.

"I have one primary goal and that's to make sure that every legally cast vote is counted. That's the primary goal here. So we've spent the last four days evaluating the division of elections decision, looking at the facts, looking at the ballots and concluded that we feel that House District 1 deserves probably four ballots that need to be reviewed, and that's why we're filing this appeal," she said.

The Supreme Court will be the deciding factor on a race that will determine if the Republican Party will have the House Majority or if the house will be split.
