ANCHORAGE (KTUU) - Gov. Dunleavy announced a recurring two-year grant of $1.65 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for new programs to prevent and treat youth homelessness across rural Alaska.
Dunleavy said the grants will help solve the problem of disappearing funding, since they are a sustainable source of funding.
The grant requires a state match of $250,000, which the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development will cover.
The announcement was made at the Mat-Su My House, a center for homeless or at risk for being homeless ages 14 to 24.
Funding is expected to be deployed by late 2020.
