FAIRBANKS, Alaska The Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly has appointed Geoffry Wildridge to fill the vacancy in seat E, as Angela Major leaves the seat to move to Rhode Island for a new job. A special meeting was held Tuesday night to interview the five candidates chosen for the interview process, Renee Friar, Gayle Garrigues, Jeffrey Rentzel, and Shellie Dawn Wyatt. All candidates were interviewed and asked three questions, with a focus on how to improve the economy in Fairbanks.
After discussion, and multiple votes narrowing down who was still in the running, Wildridge received the 5 votes needed to be appointed to Seat E, and was immediately sworn in.
After discussion, and multiple votes narrowing down who was still in the running, Wildridge received the 5 votes needed to be appointed to Seat E, and was immediately sworn in. Wildridge will have to run for re-election in October if he would like to continue in the seat and Thursday night will be his first meeting on the assembly.
In July, another seat will be up for appointment as Assembly member Andrew Gray leaves his seat. Although that appointment will only be for a few months before the election, it is state law that a seat has to be filled if it will be vacant for more than 45 days. Gray's seat will be vacant for just over 60 days.
