FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Shoppers have been filling the donation boxes at Fred Meyer's this weekend with items such as canned goods, pies and turkeys. The food drive was put in place to fill the holidays' short supply. Organizers say that when the food bank and both Fred Myers locations joined forces, the success far exceeded their expectations.
Last year alone, the donations received were able to feed 22 hundred families and put 517 turkeys on the tables of Fairbanks residents' homes.
Danelle Roof, volunteer with the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, says it's times like this where the generosity of Fairbanks shines through its people.
The three day event brought in record breaking numbers - with over 21,000 pounds of food, and over $2,000 in donations.
