FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Fairbanks North Star Borough has many vacancies for commissioner positions. There are currently vacancies for early Childhood development, Sustainability, Planning, Historic Preservation, Chena Riverfront, Animal Control, Parks and Recreation, and Trails commissions. Chief of Staff Jim Williams says a commission seat is a great way to get involved with local government.

"If you're interested in volunteering your time, depending on the commission you're in it could be one every two weeks for a few hours each time. It could be once a month, once a quarter. Usually the meetings are in the evening and it's a great way to get involved and be involved in local government," said Williams.
