FAIRBANKS, Alaska. (KTVF) The FOCUS Homeschool program held an event for those dealing with schools being closed for the time being. They provided educational activities and bags for those in need.
"This is a wonderful opportunity, there [are] a lot of parents right now just thrown into this," said Annie Dougherty of FOCUS. "They are suddenly homeschooling, never had any plans to do that, not in their wildest dreams."
To maintain social distancing, they allowed people to drive up and wait in their cars while the staff passed out supplies.
This effort was spearheaded by a group of experienced home school moms that wanted to help the community. "We are able to relieve some of their fears, and help them know that it's an awesome experience to have that time with your kids, and give them some fun things to do during that time." said Dougherty.
FOCUS says this was a spur of the moment-type of event -- however, they do hope to continue helping the community with more ideas down the line.
