FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two Kindergarten classes from Denali Elementary School took a tour of the Alaska Department of Transportation workshop Friday for the unveiling of two newly named plow trucks. The classes of Katie Brown and Becky Zaverl were the winners of the DOT 'Name the Plow' contest. The names they submitted? Jack and Jill Frost.

Danielle Tessen is the Publications Specialist for the Department of Transportation and she explains why they held this contest.

"The goal was really to reach out to our kindergarten classes across the whole district and to hold a contest for them to name our snowplows, and the reason we did this was, we wanted to create a fun memory around a safety awareness event as well," she said.

The kids even put together a song and dance about the two plows.

They sang, "Jack and Jill drive up the road to plow a bunch of snow. Jack plows here and Jill plows there, around our town they go!"

After the unveiling the kids were able to climb into the trucks and take a tour of the building and equipment. There were 30 names entered in the contest and it was the crew members that operate the trucks that chose the winners.

One of the names in the running was 'Hulk Smash', and Tessen says she was a strong supporter for that choice.
