FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The wreck took place Sunday, as a tanker carrying more than a thousand gallons of a kerosene-based fuel went over a guardrail and came to rest on its side.
The accident occurred near mile 317 of the highway.
Army officials say no one in the truck sustained serious injuries and measures were taken to contain the spill.
The truck was one of a group of military vehicles returning to Fort Wainwright after providing fuel to units participating in the 'Arctic Eagle' exercises near Valdez.
The Army says the damaged tanker vehicle was recovered yesterday afternoon.
Officials from Fort Wainwright and the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation are assessing environmental impacts of the spill.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
