FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Mayor Bryce Ward held his first press availability session Tuesday something he plans to have be a regular occurrence.
When asked how the borough is planning to support federal employees affected by the shutdown, Ward referred to a program the Municipality of Anchorage implemented in which they provide free bus rides to affected federal employees. However, Ward added that due to the number of rural areas in Fairbanks, this may not be the best fit. But he says if the shutdown continues, they will look into possible ways the borough could support those federal employees.
"I think as we do look to the future and if the shutdown does extend into the future, that we're gonna need to start to talk about what those impacts would be and how we can mitigate them, but that hasn't happened at this time," said Ward.
