The body of a man has been recovered after his snow machine fell through the ice on the Kobuk River.

52-year-old Alvin Williams of Ambler departed alone around 3-PM May 2-nd. When Williams did not arrive at his destination to the village of Kobuk roughly 40 miles away, the Northwest Artic Borough snow machine searchers and Alaska State Troopers began a search for the missing rider. Around 3:40 P-M the snow machine was located a mile south of Kobuk on the river trail after falling through the ice. Williams was not located at that time and was suspected of going into the flowing water current and possibly under ice.

Ground teams searched exposed water openings downstream from the machine. On Sunday the body was recovered and next of kin were notified.
