FAIRBANKS, Alaska - BP is accepting nominations for its annual Alaska Teachers of Excellence program to recognize teachers who are making a difference and inspiring students.
Now in its 24th year, the program is looking for unsung heroes in Alaska's schools - such as principals, counselors, teacher assistants, and others.
Since its inception, more than 750 educators have been honored.
According to Associate Director of External Affairs at BP, Tara Stevens, a new award was also added in recent years called the BP Educational Ally.
Stevens said this is a great opportunity for teachers to showcase the great things they're doing in the classroom.
“Alaska teachers work really hard and there's a lot of great programs across the state and this is I think one of the biggest and longest running ones that recognize teachers and specifically give them the opportunity to showcase the great things that they're doing in the classroom and things that are happening at their school and I think over the 24 years of the program it's become known as a pretty prestigious award and each year we hear from teachers how meaningful it is to have someone recognize them for their hard work,” she said.
Anyone can nominate a BP Teacher of Excellence or a BP Educational Ally, by visiting BPteachers.com.
The deadline for nominations is February 1st.
Winners will receive a cash prize, and will also be able to designate a BP grant to go to their school.
