Attorney General supports recognition of Missing and Murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives Awareness Day

ANCHORAGE, Alaska Over the weekend, President Donald J. Trump issued a proclamation recognizing May 5, 2019 as Missing and Murdered American Indians and Alaska Natives Awareness Day. Alaska Attorney General Kevin G. Clarkson appreciated the President's proclamation and echoes it's sentiments.

"As we all know, Alaska has atrocious rates of sexual violence, and Alaska Native women and children are most often the victims," said Attorney General Clarkson. "Whether it's sex trafficking, sexual abuse, or sexual assault—sometimes ending in murder—it is important for us all to take time to recognize the survivors and the families left behind. I plan to work with our federal, local and tribal law enforcement partners to find justice for survivors and those who have been murdered. These problems have been lingering long enough. We need to do more."
