Alcohol a factor in collision involving Ft. Wainwright gate sign

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) According to a press release from Fort Wainwright public affairs, a vehicle driven by an off-duty Soldier collided with the welcome sign at the main gate and alcohol is being considered a factor in the collision.

Shortly after midnight, Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, a vehicle driven by an off duty Soldier collided with the installation welcome sign at the main gate.

Security personnel on duty at the gate responded immediately to render aid to the sole occupant of the vehicle. Fort Wainwright Military Police called Fort Wainwright dispatch for Emergency Medical Service assistance. The driver was transported to Bassett Army Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and has been turned over to his unit.

Alcohol is considered to be a factor. The accident is under investigation.
