Alaska State House Still Without Speaker

By  |

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska State House has tried once again to elect a speaker of the house, but remains unsuccessful. Representative Dave Talerico of Healy was nominated for the third time by the Republican caucus, resulting in another 20–20 vote. After that vote failed, Representative Gary Knopp of Kenai was nominated in the hope he might be a bridge to the two groups. Concerns were raised about Knopp's truthfulness based on the way he's voted. In the end, the vote for Knopp was 20–20 as well. The house will remain without an organized majority as it heads into the 30th day of the legislative session tomorrow, which will be one third into the 90 day session.
