Alaska Employment Falls To Second Lowest In US

The U. S. Labor Department reports that there was an increase in hiring in 13 states in January, while 36 states remained the same.

Alaska was the only state that saw decline.

Employers nationwide added 238,000 jobs.

Alaska lost 2,100 jobs, mostly in or related to the oil and gas industry.

New Mexico has the nation's highest unemployment rate, at 6.7 percent, followed by Alaska at 6.5 percent.
