FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce hosted a House and Senate candidate forum Tuesday. Twelve panelists sat on the dais in the Westmark Gold Room while a moderator asked each candidate various questions reflecting issues that are important to not only the Chamber members but the community. Candidates answered both rapid fire questions using green and red cards for 'yes' or 'no' answers, and questions from the audience. One of the more contentious issues that the candidates commented on is Ballot Measure 1, or the 'Stand for Salmon' initiative, that could add more regulations if passed.

Alaska State House Candidate, Bart LeBon (R), said, "Ballot Measure 1 is a solution looking for a problem, and there's not one out there."

Alaska State House Candidate, Scott Kawasaki (D), said, "So, the impacts are not just in the permitting and how long it takes and whether there are salmon impacted, but it's about the people."

Alaska State House Candidate, Pete Kelly (R), said, "Ballot Initiative 1 is a nightmare. As Jim said earlier, it will affect everyone in this room. It is so deeply flawed, if you want to go hunting and cross a stream you have to have a permit with public notice."
