FAIRBANKS, Alaska. (KTVF) The Recall Dunleavy effort held a drive-through signature event in Fairbanks this weekend. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Recall Dunleavy changed the way they gather signatures, so they set up drive-through collection sites.

Doug Tansy, a volunteer with Recall Dunleavy, says the volunteers had personal protective equipment to keep both themselves and signers safe. Tansy says their goal is to validate more than 70,000 signatures, and that they are trying to complete that goal as soon as possible.

"We definitely believe we would have been well done by now had the coronavirus pandemic not occurred. We had over 30,000 signatures in the first two weeks and things grounded to a halt. But we're up and running again, we've started a new campaign to get them mailed out to folks that request them, as well as this drive through event here now going on here and in Anchorage this weekend," said Tansy.

Tansy says they will continue to host these events until they reach their desired number of signatures.

“It’s an unprecedented time, doing an unprecedented thing in the State of Alaska, so there’s been a lot of challenges but we’re up for it, and we’re ready to go, and we’re excited about this,” said Tansy.
