FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) A man charged with attempted murder pleaded guilty to second degree assault in court Monday. James Karr, 73, of Two Rivers was charged with attempted murder, weapons misconduct and assault-3 for an incident in March of last year.

According to court records, Karr allegedly was wrestling over a gun with another person when he pulled the trigger. The gun didn't go off but the victim was scared for her life. Another person in the house took the gun from Karr.

As part of the plea deal he agreed to an aggravator of domestic violence. The deal left sentencing open to the judge’s discretion.

Karr's defense attorney says she plans to call at least two expert witnesses to testify for Karr at sentencing. She said that Karr is a Vietnam veteran and sufferers from PTSD. She also said he was under the influence of drugs for his cancer treatment.
