FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) In a press release issued Wednesday by the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, it was announced that Durham School Services has been awarded the pupil transportation contract. The contract has previously been held by First Student Inc.
The release included the following information:
The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Board of Education voted 5-1 to award the pupil transportation contract to Durham School Services at the board meeting Tuesday, January 21, 2020.
Dr. Karen Gaborik stated, “Factors that led to this decision include the overall competitive price, Durham’s comprehensive plan to attract and retain quality employees which includes a significant wage increase for drivers and other staff, an entirely new unleaded gas fleet, digital surveillance with automatic upload via Wi-Fi, safety features which include an automatic fire detection and suppression technology, and high-quality references from other school districts.”
The school district’s Chief Operating Officer, Andy DeGraw stated, “For the first time in many years, there were multiple bidders for the district’s pupil transportation contract, and we saw direct benefit from that in the RFP process.”
Board President Wendy Dominique stated, “Transportation for our students is a key part of their school day. Choosing a contractor to entrust their safety and well-being has been a long but important process. I appreciate the time invested and professionalism demonstrated by the bidders and school district staff to help us make this decision.”
Services with Durham will begin August 2021.
