FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) Fairbanks kids got a chance to go Christmas shopping with police officers as part of the ‘Shop with a Cop’ program.

Businesses in collaboration with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs raised the funds needed for the shopping spree. School councilors nominated kids for the program and then the police took them shopping.

The children met at the police station and then rode in police cars to Fred Meyer where they could do their shopping. After they checked out, the kids went to The Boys and Girls Club to wrap the gifts and eat pizza.

"Shop with a cop is actually a nation wide program where law enforcement officers get together and go with a group of kids and take them shopping for Christmas presents for their families of friends, anybody on their Christmas lists," Dupee said.

Local businesses also provided drinks and pizza and the Fairbanks Community Food Bank sent each child home with a Christmas dinner for their family.
