According to the release at approximately 10:49 a.m. troopers received a report of a shooting off of Aeronca Ave. Troopers responded and located an adult male with life threatening injuries in a vehicle at the Fred Meyer West parking lot.

The injured male was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Troopers have identified a person of interest in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.

According to Captain Ronald Wall with Alaska State Troopers D Detachment, "Early this morning, approximately 11 a.m., the Alaska State Troopers and Fairbanks Police Department, as well as other municipal and state agencies responded to a report of a drive-by shooting at Fred Meyer West. After some subsequent investigation, troopers and other agencies determined that the shooting actually happened off of the Dale Road, Aeronca area. One victim was transported, he is now determined to be deceased. Troopers are investigating at this time.”

It is not exactly clear how or why the vehicle ended up at Fred Meyer but according to Captain Wall, "my understanding is that the parties were being transported that direction.”

When asked about the identified persons of interest he said, “we are not going to discuss who’s in custody and who’s not, we’ll just tell you that we’ve seized residences for search warrants, vehicles and so forth, and the troopers are actively investigating.”

There is no threat to the public at this time.
