FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Fairbanks City Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the Aurora Energy power plant early Saturday morning.

According to a Facebook post a compressor in the plant failed and leaked oil that then caught fire. The plant personnel believed they had put the fire out but it reignited several times.

The Fairbanks Fire Department, Fort Wainwright Fire and University Fire responded to help contain the blaze. They were able to extinguish the fire but the compressor was destroyed. The compressor is estimated to cost around 40 thousand dollars but the plant will remain in operation.
