Pearl Creek Elementary
My name is Emily and I’m a 3rd grade teacher at Pearl Creek Elementary. I graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a BA in Elementary Education and I have 1 year of teaching under my belt. I was born in California, but I've lived in Germany for 9 years before coming to Alaska. This will be my 8th year in the Fairbanks/North Pole area. I recently celebrated my 2 year anniversary with my husband who is in the Air National Guard at Eielson AFB. While I don’t have kids of my own yet, I do have 2 cats that demand a lot of attention. Teaching has been my passion since I was a kid!
I was worried about my first year of teaching, but the staff at my school was so supportive that I was able to make it through. I’m just excited for what this school year will be like and there’s so much that I want to change to make the learning experience better for my students, but I know I have to take it one step at a time. I’m looking to try out some new ways to give my students a variety of seating options. When choosing a working space, all of the kids want to be on the windowsill and not in a standard chair. It’d be amazing to get some help with that. Caddies or tubs are also greatly appreciated to fix up my classroom library and make it more accessible for the kids.
