FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The West Valley Volleyball team made a trip to Boileau Hall last night to take on the Monroe Catholic Rams in a non-conference contest.
The Wolfpack were able to earn a sweep in this one, defeating Monroe in three sets.
All of these sets were a battle as West Valley won the first 25-21 and won both the second and third by the bare minimum, securing 25-23 wins.
Senior Jozey Martellero led the way for the Wolfpack with 11 kills.
The defending Mid Alaska Conference Champions are now 1-1 in regular season play this year while the Rams fall to 2-1.
West Valley will now be off until September sixth when they host the defending Aurora Conference Champion Valdez Buccaneers.
Across town, the Hutchison Hawks hosted the Lathrop Malemutes in a non-conference contest.
For the first time in recent memory, the Hawks were able to defeat their 4A opponents, winning with a convincing 3 set sweep.
They won the first set 25-21, the second 25-17, and then the third 25-15.
This was an endowment contest that won't count towards the teams records, so the Hawks are still 1-1 and the Mutes are still 1-0.
Lathrop will now host Monroe Catholic on Thursday night and Hutchison is off until they travel down to Sitka to play Mt. Edgecumbe on September 6th.
