West Valley Sweeps Lathrop in annual Cross up Cancer Double-header

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The latest edition of our Cross-town rivalry between the Lathrop Malemutes and West Valley Wolfpack was held with a Mid Alaska Conference Basketball double-header last night.
Lathrop hosted the Pack in their annual Cross-up Cancer night.
In the girl's game, West Valley was able to escape with a 56-53 win.
West Valley held a 12 point lead at one point in the fourth quarter, but Lathrop was able to battle back and tie it up with about two minutes left.
The Malemutes held a 53-52 lead before Jozey Martellaro was able to earn her only points of the game on a three point shot to put the Wolfpack ahead.
Sheridan Blasey then sank a free throw to secure the win for West Valley, who are now 4-0 in MAC play.
UAA commit Ellen Silva led the Pack with 17 points while Ella Roberts led the Malemutes with 13.
The Boys game started immediately afterwards, where West Valley secured a sweep with a 55-39 win.
Demarcus Davis led both teams in scoring with 23 points, while Lathrop was led by Jaren Miller and his nine point effort.
This was the fifth annual crossing up cancer game where teams wore pink jerseys.
The coaches and even the referees also wore pink.
Funds were raised for the American Cancer Society and according to Lathrop's AD Steve Zanazzo, around $1,600 were raised with money still coming in.
