FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Basketball season officially tipped off last night at West Valley High School.
The School is currently hosting the North Pole Patriots, Valdez Buccaneers, and South Anchorage Wolverines in their annual season-opening tournament.
Our two Interior Squads faced off for their opening contest, where the West Valley Wolfpack defeated North Pole 64-37.
These two squads were tied at 12 points each after the first quarter of play, but the Pack were able to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring their opponents 20-5.
They continued that momentum and outscored their Mid Alaska Conference Rivals 32-20 in the second half to start their season off with a victory.
Terrell Peter led the Pack in scoring with 22 points while Isaiah Warner dropped 13.
The Patriots were led by Kenny Peterson, who was the game's top scorer with 23 points.
They also earned 8 from Alex Garcia.
For the Wolfpack, this was the first game under new head coach Colton Growden.
We talked to Terrell Peter after the win about the new leadership for this young group.

"Well I really like him because last year coaching was alright," began Terrell Peter; "but this year I'm excited to see what he brings to the table and hopefully he can lead us to success. It was good. Last year we came off of a bad loss in state so hopefully we can come back this year and get some wins."
