FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Smoke had canceled most of the sporting events earlier in the week, but there are still activities scheduled for the weekend.
Interior Alaska Orthopedic and Sports Medicine along with McKinley Orthopedic and sports medicine are conducting free sports physicals Saturday starting at 9 AM. The clinic is at the Surgery Center on Pegar, and will close at 1 pm. Student-athletes will need to bring their school ID.
Also Saturday, Big Ray's is hosting a free fishing clinic from 11-1 pm, specializing in salmon. They'll assist in where to catch fish and can hook you up with your specific rod set.
The Goldpanners plan on playing three games this weekend against the South Bay Saints, starting with a double-header Saturday. Game one is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the second game starting 30 minutes following game one. Both of those games will be seven inning contests. On Sunday, the Panners are slated to face the Saints at 3 p.m. All games will be at Growden Memorial Park.
On Sunday, the Run of the Refuge 5k and 10k trail run is set to begin at 1 p.m at the U-A-F ski hut. The race benefits the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The Angel Creek 50K has been canceled for Saturday due to poor air quality.
