Valdez wins WV Tournament;Monroe and Eielson finish sweeps in Saturday Basketball games

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The opening weekend for High School Basketball continued on Saturday.
In the West Valley Tournament, the Valdez Buccaneers were able to secure a perfect tourney record with a nailbiting 68-65 victory over the host West Valley Wolfpack.
Valdez was led by Jalen Freeman, who finished the day with 21 points.
The Wolfpack had a 17 point night from Junior Demarcus Davis.
The South Anchorage Wolverines were also victorious in their tournament finale, defeating North Pole 61-15.
Reece Ivanoff led the Wolverines with 24 points.
Outside of the tournament, the North Pole Patriot Girls fell to Juneau-Douglas on Saturday.
Juneau won this one 45-30.
Megan Grant led the Pats with 12 points.
And for our Aurora Conference teams, the Eielson boys defeated Galena 48-40 on Saturday, securing a weekend sweep.
Christian Bolton led the Ravens with 13 points.
The Galena Girls earned a sweep of their own over Eielson with a 65-12 win on Saturday.
Pearle Green was dominant for the Hawks, finishing with 25 points.
And the Monroe Catholic Rams were victorious over Glennallen on Saturday.
The boys won 46-15 and the girls were victorious in a 50-15 effort.
Katie Bast led the girls with 25 points and the boys were led by a 21 point performance from Gabe Silas.
