UAF Volleyball receives highest preseason ranking in program history

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Great Northwest Athletic Conference released their annual preseason coaches poll for volleyball Thursday. The UAF Nanooks finished fifth in the poll, their highest placement in the rankings since they began the GNAC preseason poll in 2015.
The Nanooks saw several bright spots last season, posting its first winning record in 10 years when they went 14-13 overall and 12-8 in conference. Those 12 conference wins were its most since 2003, going back 15 years. UAF will be returning 10 players and adding four newcomers.
The Nanooks will head into the 2019 season with head coach Brian Scott in his fifth year and is bringing in a new assistant in former player Megan Olsen.
UAF will get their first taste of action Friday, when they host the intrasquad Blue and Gold game and will make their official home debut September 24th, when they host in-state rival Alaska Anchorage.

The top of the 2019 GNAC preseason poll features two Washington teams ahead of the pack. Western Washington and Central Washington are tied for the number one spot, followed by the University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves. Simon Fraser placed fourth in the polls, ahead of the Nanooks at number five.
