UAF Swim announces 2019-20 schedule

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - More University sports schedules are being released, as we inch closer to the collegiate athletic seasons.

On Monday, the Nanook Swimming program announced its 2019-2020 schedule.

The Nanook Swimmers will enter the season with a new coaching staff, with Becca Weiland leading the way and Kelsey Leeson serving as the assistant.

"The coaching staff is excited about a multitude of events that are happening this upcoming season," Weiland said in a UAF press release Monday. "We are bringing in one of the most academically and athletically talented groups of incoming freshmen, almost half of our conference scorers are returning, we are competing against new NCAA Division I opponents and we have a brand new coaching staff. With all of these components, I am anticipating this upcoming season to be one of the most successful seasons that Nanook swimming has ever seen." Weiland added.

UAF will have six appearance at their home Patty Center Pool for the upcoming season.
The Nooks will warm up with the intra-squad Blue and Gold Pentathlon on September 21st.
Their first official meet will be September 29th, when they host San Diego State for the home opener.

Alaska will then host another scrimmage, when the alumni meet takes place October 4th.

Pacific Collegiate Swim and Diving Conference meets will begin October 18th, when UAF hosts Azusa Pacific at the Patty.

The Nanooks will close out home meets on November 15th when they bring in Seattle University, before spending the remainder of the season on the road.

Thanksgiving weekend, UAF will compete in the Pepperdine Winter Invite to finish out the calendar year.

For 2020, they will travel to Pacific Lutheran University in Washington, before a meet at Simon Fraser in mid-January.

This all leads up to the conference championships, which take place Los Angeles February 12th. Those who qualify will take on the NCAA Division II Championships March 11th.

Oda Bygdnes has represented UAF at the National Championships the past two seasons, and earned an All-American Honorable mention last year.

The remaining UAF schedules expected to be released is the Nordic Ski schedule and the men's basketball schedule.
