FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The third-degree theft charges against former Iditarod Musher Jason Mackey have been dropped.
Mackey, who was accused of stealing four kennels from fellow musher Allan Eischens after last year's race, said that he dropped off four brand new Kennels to replace the ones he was accused of stealing.
The Assistant District Attorney in Nome then dropped the charges against Mackey, according to the court document that was filed in Nome on Halloween.
According to Mackey, the theft charge cost him his one major sponsor, which was one of the reasons why he dropped out of the 2018 Iditarod.
