FAIRBANKS, Alaska - After back-to-back weekends without a victory, the Pack got their season back on track last night at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.
The combined West Valley and Lathrop hockey team defeated the North Pole Patriots 6-4.
The Pack jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first period, but North Pole was able to battle back in the second to make it a tie game, sitting at three goals each.
The Pack then put themselves in the lead for good with a three goal effort in the final frame.
Trenton Spears led the Pack in scoring, lighting the lamp in both the first and third periods and also providing a pair of assists.
Joe Kimbrough, Kenneth Sjodin, Chase Weisz, and Zach Campbell provided the additional goals for the Pack while Goaltender Michael Swarner finished with 18 saves to secure the win between the pipes.
This also served as senior night for the Pack, who are nearing the end of their first season as a combined team.
They took some time to honor their seniors after the first period, where the players were given the opportunity to change into different uniforms for this ceremony, giving them a chance to wear their West Valley or Lathrop sweaters one last time.
"It's kind of surreal honestly it's the last few games. It feels the same but you have the feeling that you aren't going to get to play much longer so you just want to do your best. We're just trying to finish up strong and try to get a couple of wins against Bartlett this weekend," said Trenton Spears, Senior – The Pack.
"The locker room is rowdy right now. Everyone is going crazy and are just excited that we could finally get a win in a season that was pretty tough. The cross town rivalry is really what guided us to the win. And it was kind of just the team coming together to support the seniors," said Joe Kimbrough, Senior – The Pack.
