FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Our top story will take us to the Big Dipper Ice Arena, where the Pack hosted the Dimond Lynx in a non-conference contest last night.
The Lynx were able to handle the combined forces of Lathrop and West Valley, skating off with a 7-1 victory.
Teague Porter led the Lynx in their win, scoring two goals and also passing out a pair of assists.
Jakob Hall also lit the lamp twice to secure the Dimond victory.
Trenton Spears was able to put the Pack up on the board in the second period, avoiding the shutout.
Overall, Dimond was able to outshoot the Pack 60-9.
After Pack Goaltender Michael Swarner went down with an injury, freshman Alexys Summar stepped up between the pipes and stopped 20 of the 21 shots she faced in the third period.
Coach Warren Moore talks about his freshman goalie stepping up, and what his team learned from this loss.
"It was pretty unbelievable. That was her first live-action. When she saw our starter was hurt, you could see it in her eyes, she was scared. In fact, the ref came over and asked if she wanted a warm-up and I said no just drop the puck she's terrified. What I would say we take away from this one was the third period. They came out and walked around us pretty easily at the start but as the game went on our kids developed a little confidence. Some of these kids have never played a true checking game before. A lot of these kids have been playing Rec their whole life. They're also playing against some strong comp players. Their confidence is building. We're going to at least be able to hang with some of these teams as we go along," said Moore.
The Pack will take on Dimond in a rematch tonight at the Patty Center.
