FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Continuing the Golden Days Celebrations, the 54th annual Gold Discovery Run takes place Sunday. The race commemorates the beginning of the gold rush in the early 20th century, starting at Cleary Summit, passing through Goldmine Trail and Goldstream Road, with the Fort Knox Gold mine pit visible from the track. The 16.3 mile race begins at 9 A.M. at Silver Gulch.
For the motor heads, and people who just like to see cars smashing into each other, the Demolition Derby is happening at 2 p.m. The annual derby is taking place at the Mitchell Raceway, the northern most dirt track in the world.
