Sterling Steward named new Alaska Nanook Athletic Director

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The search was long and saw several candidates, but the University of Alaska finally has their new Athletic Director.
Sterling Steward will be leading the Nanook Athletic Department starting this year.
Steward has been the Director of Athletics for seven years at Savanah State University, a Division 1 program located in Georgia.
While leading that program, Steward was responsible for all managerial matters for their Athletic Teams.
His revenue generation at Savanah State led to a self-sufficient Athletic Department and a 25% increase in scholarships.
Now, after 218 days of searching for their new leader, Steward will lead the Nanooks and looks forward to turning them into the Flagship program of the state of Alaska.
"I decided that this would be the best place for me because one of the first lessons I learned at Southern Miss was that, in order for you to be successful, the people above you have to want you to be successful. All they conveyed to me was that they wanted to be successful. They wanted Nanook Nation to be great. And being the flagship of the state, we're going to be great. It wouldn't matter to me where, if we were on Jupiter or the Sun, if I could do what I'm doing... This is fun. I've been wanting to do this since I was 13. And this is absolutely fun," said Steward.
