Schnering's Sharp-shooting leads Nanook Rifle team over UTEP

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanook Rifle team was able to earn a road win over the University of Texas El Paso yesterday down in Texas.
The third ranked team in the country was able to defeat the Miners 46-47 to 46-01.
The Nooks were able to sweep both the Smallbore and Air Rifle scores.
First they were able to sneak out a 22-97 to 22-85 win in the smallbore, before dominating the Air Rifle 23-50 to 23-16.
Lathrop graduate JT Schnering led both teams in scoring with a total score of 11-71.
He shot a 592 in the Air Rifle to finish as the top shooter there, while finishing second in the smallbore with a score of 579.
The Nooks also had the shooter with the second highest point total in newcomer Kellan McAferty, who finished three points behind Schnering by shooting a 590 in the air rifle and a 578 in the smallbore.
The Nooks had another matchup in the Lone Star State earlier today where their perfect season came to an end.
The Texas Christian Horned Frogs defeated the Nooks 46-90 to 46-49.
TCU had two out of the top three shooters, but Schnering was once again the leader for the Nanooks, finishing third overall with a score of 11-73.
The Nanooks will have one more matchup on the road when they take on the University of Nevada in Reno tomorrow.
