San Diego Waves defeat Goldpanners in series opener

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Goldpanners opened their first seven-game series of the year last night against the San Diego Waves.
This one did not start off how the home team had hoped, falling 5-3 to the Waves.
San Diego held a 1-0 lead after the first two innings, but the Goldpanners took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third with two runs.
That lead wouldn't last long as San Diego poured on four runs in the top of the fifth inning and held the Panners to just one.
Both teams then went scoreless through the remainder of the contest to secure the series opening victory.
Austin Thompson earned the win on the mound for the Waves, pitching 4.2 innings and striking out two.
Blake Porter was the offensive leader for the Panners, finishing with two RBIs while going 2 for 4 at bat.
The other run was brought in by Cole Carder.
The Panners will get numerous more shots at the Waves.
They'll be hosting their Californian opponents every day through June 18th.
