FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Last night saw the annual Local Floor Hockey Game between the Alaska Nanook hockey team and the Special Olympics Floor Hockey team at the Patty Center.
This game consisted of nine, 3 minute periods.
It was a back and forth contest as both teams were able to put up points.
They ended up tied at 7 points each after the nine periods, so we went into Overtime.
The defenses came in clutch in the sudden death overtime period as both teams were held scoreless.
They then went to a shootout, which saw both teams rotate through all their shooters.
When it was all said and done, the Special Olympics Squad stood tall 12-10.
The loss will not count towards the Nanooks Record.
Michael Day put on an amazing performance for the Special Olympians, finishing the day with 4 goals, including one in the Shootout.
The Special Olympics floor hockey team will now prepare for the State Floor Hockey Competition in Anchorage on March 9th through the 11th.
