FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The North Pole Patriots Week 2 match-up against the Wasilla Warriors has been moved to Saturday. Due to air conditions in Wasilla, the teams are moving their game up to the Interior.

Due to poor air quality conditions in the Mat-Su Valley, the North Pole Patriots football game has been postponed to Saturday. The Patriots will now host the Wasilla Warriors tomorrow in North Pole at 2:30 P.M. (Aaron Walling/KTVF)

The smoke caused by numerous fires in the state have forced the cancellation of many games. Here are the Friday football games that are either cancelled or postponed to a later date.

The Mat-Su and Anchorage school districts have cancelled outdoor activities to the air quality. West Valley will spend their time with their JV program having an official game against the Monroe Catholic Rams at 4:30 P.M. today. Their varsity team will have a scrimmage at 6:30 P.M.

Lathrop’s game against the West Anchorage Eagles is unaffected by the changes, as they will still face each other tomorrow night at 7:30 P.M. in Fairbanks.

North Pole is coming off a 32-12 loss to the Eielson Ravens in the annual Blood Bowl. The Patriots look to use this experience to propel them in their next matchup.

"I think through that first game, a lot of these kids hadn't played varsity football before," North Pole first year head coach Mike Hollet said. "That's kind of true of a lot of kids in that first week that you play. So it was good for those kids to get that experience and understand the intensity that it takes to win a football game, you know, or play in a football game."

The Warriors on the other hand, are heading into this matchup with a 39-32 week one victory over the West Valley Wolfpack on its resume.

"[We're] focusing on tackling, they got real big dudes, they got some state championship wrestlers on their team, so we are just preparing on tackling, preparing for a really long physical game, trying to prepare our bodies and our minds for what that looks like." Hollett said.
