FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Two Monroe Catholic Athletes signed their National Letters of Intent today to take their talents to the College Level.
Track and Field Athlete Landon Nicholson and Softball Player Marian Nelson signed in the Monroe Library.
Nelson will be heading to Penn State Beaver, a commonwealth campus of Penn State University that is located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
Nelson was an all-conference Softball player for the Rams and earned an invite over the summer to participate in the Elite Development Invitational over the summer, a prestigious training camp held by Major League Baseball and USA Softball.
Nicholson made a name for himself as a junior last year, winning the region championships in the 800 meter race and placing fourth in the state championships last May.
Between Cross Country and Track, he holds five school records.
He'll be heading to Black Hills State, an NCAA Division 2 School located in Spearfish South Dakota.
We talked to both of these athletes after taking the next big steps in their athletic careers.
"I think community is everything especially mostly my softball community and Monroe having players step up and play when we barely have a team and that support me a lot to get me to the next level with having a high school team," said Nelson.
"It's pretty cool, I don't know it's just loads of excitement you know and I'm like I'm not done running I still got like four more years so really excited,” said Nicholson.
