North Pole advances to Mid Alaska Conference Championship game

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Shifting our focus to High School Volleyball, it is officially Championship season for our Interior Teams.
Here in city limits, the first round of the Mid Alaska Conference Championship tournament saw the North Pole Patriots take on the Lathrop Malemutes.
The Patriots were able to secure an appearance in tonight's Championship game with a four-set victory.
The Pats won the first set 25-20, but the Malemutes were able to respond with a 25-11 victory in the second.
The Patriots rallied from that loss for a 25-18 win in the third set and a 25-19 game-sealer in the fourth.
The Patriots will now get a shot at the West Valley Wolfpack in the Conference title game, with a berth at the State Championship tournament on the line.
We caught up with North Pole's Ainsley Smith about how her team emerged victorious, and how they're feeling going up against West Valley, who have yet to lose a conference contest.
"I think we really wanted to come together and beat them at their own game. We want to take it to West Valley as well, and hopefully go to state. Since we are so young we are shorter compared to a high, high height of a team that we are able to take a set back even though we're short and we are younger and to come back and take sets off of them and that we can take it to them," said Smith.
