FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The final Mid Alaska Conference matchup of the year between the Lathrop Malemutes and North Pole Patriot Volleyball teams was held in the Dan McHenry Gym last night.
For the second consecutive game, the Patriots were victorious, defeating Lathrop in four sets.
The Patriots won the first set 25-22, but the Malemutes were able to respond with a 25-22 win of their own to tie it up.
The Patriots were able to rally from an early deficit in the third set, securing the advantage with a 26-24 win.
They then finished off the Malemutes in another tight battle, securing the victory with a 25-23 win.
Senior Sydney Teel led the efforts for the Patriots on their senior night, finishing the day with 16 kills.
Kinley Erickson earned seven digs while Raina Girard finished the day with 4 blocks.
The Patriots now improve to 8-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
They only have one more Mid Alaska Conference game before the Conference Championship Tournament.
We talked to Sydney Teel about last night's victory, and how the team feels moving forward.
"It's great it really shows that we can work together as a team and it builds up our confidence through the whole game to have rallies like that. It takes a lot from the rest of the team. It's nice to win those. We knew that they weren't going to roll over and had it to us so we just had to step up and take charge and up our game. After a win we always feel confident, so I feel good going into tomorrow and Regionals," said Teel.
The Patriots will host West Valley in the final MAC game of the regular season tonight. The Conference Championship tournament is set for November 1st and 2nd.
