The North Pole Patriots flag football program have won their first game in three years after taking down the Hutchison Hawks 32-0. Under Head Coach Matt Croan, this was their first win. He saw his offense and defense put points on the board.

“As a coach I am so proud. These girls have worked so hard,” said Croan about his team’s efforts on their home field. “A few them three years without a win. This is huge for us, this is huge for North Pole.”

The Patriots joined their prep football community in snapping long, losing streaks. With stellar quarterback play from Dakota Darby and the defense shutting down Hutch, the Patriots earned their first win dominant fashion. Their biggest highlight came in the second half with freshman Alicia Guzman taking an interception 97 yards to the house.

“It was like super fast, I couldn’t even think,” said Guzman about her pick-six. “I think I was just sprinting as hard as I could. It was really exciting.”

North Pole gets a break until the Sept. 19 when they host the Lathrop Malemutes. Meanwhile the Hutchison Hawks travel down to Anchorage to take on the Bartlett Golden Bears on Friday.
